πŸ“–EPUB Forge
v5.5

Edit EPUBs, right on your phone.

Import a book, fix its title, cover and chapters, then export a clean EPUB 3.3. Everything stays on your device β€” no account, no upload.

My Books β€” saved on this device

Save a book here and you can come back to it later, even after opening other books. The single "Continue last book" draft still works too β€” this is the multi-book version of it. Saved books stay on this device only.

What it can do

  • Edit title, author, language, publisher & description
  • Replace the cover image
  • Edit chapter text, reorder, add, delete, merge & split chapters
  • Rebuilds the table of contents on export
  • Exports EPUB 3.3, ready for Aurum or Kindle Scribe
  • Cover fit for your Kindle β€” Scribe, Paperwhite, Oasis and more
  • Amazon KDP readiness check before you publish
  • Auto-fetch metadata and covers from Google Books and Open Library β€” you pick the match
  • Fix chapter organization: split, merge, clean up, and retitle chapters
  • One-tap Scribe cleanup, find & replace across chapters, and batch cleanup for several books at once
  • Clean TOC titles, rename title-less chapters, save several books in My Books, and validate the export

Tip: DRM-locked store copies won't open here β€” this works with plain, DRM-free EPUBs.

No cover

JPG or PNG works best.

Auto-fetch metadata

One tap searches Google Books and Open Library for this book β€” only the title, author, or ISBN you search with is sent, never the book file. Results are ranked, and you pick the match, so a wrong book never overwrites yours silently. Series data is sparse in those two sources, so check the Series fields after applying.

Chapters

Undo last change

Undoes the last change β€” an Apply (Fix organization, Auto-organize, a TOC rebuild, TOC title cleanup, title-less renames, broken-image removal, Find & Replace, a Scribe cleanup, body cleanup), or an editor save, a chapter reorder, merge, delete, add, or split β€” restoring the chapter list as it was before it. Your original file is never affected, and you can undo several steps in a row.

Nothing to undo yet.

Contents β€” tap a chapter to open it

This is the book's table of contents, in chapter order. Tap any chapter here and it opens in the editor. The exported book gets this same list, so tapping a chapter in a reader jumps to that chapter.

Auto-organize chapters

Let the app look through the whole book first: it checks the table of contents order, moves front matter (Cover, Copyright, Preface…) to the front and back matter (Epilogue, Appendix…) to the end, renames chapters whose titles are wrong (to the TOC title, to their heading, or by renumbering), then fixes splits, empty chapters, untitled chapters, missing headings, dangling headings, and duplicates β€” all in one preview. Tiny chapters are left as-is, not merged automatically. Nothing changes until you tap Apply, and your original file is untouched until you export.

Chapters don't match the book?

Some books pack several chapters into one file, with the table of contents pointing to sections inside it β€” that's the usual reason an app shows 2 chapters when the book really has 8. This checks the book's own table of contents against the chapters found, and can rebuild the chapter list from it.

Clean up table of contents titles

Some books' tables of contents carry junk from the conversion: printed page numbers baked into a title ("Equal162 Protection", "Men 198 and"), or a whole sentence of body text where a chapter title should be. This checks the book's original table of contents, shows you each proposed fix, and only changes the exported navigation β€” never the chapters themselves, and never your original file. Uncheck anything you don't want fixed.

Rename title-less chapters

For books where every chapter is called the same generic thing ("Converted Ebook", "Untitled") β€” common in Calibre PDF conversions, where each chapter is really a printed page. This looks for the first short bold entry in each chapter (skipping the "Page N" header and any full sentences) and proposes it as the chapter title, falling back to "Page N" when there is no bold entry. Preview first, uncheck anything wrong β€” nothing changes until you tap Apply, and your original file is untouched until you export.

Clean up conversion body text

Calibre and PDF conversions leave junk inside the chapters themselves: empty page-break blocks, standalone "Page N" header paragraphs, empty paragraphs, and the same paragraph twice in a row. This counts each kind, shows you examples, and only removes the kinds you check. It never joins hyphenated words or rewrites prose β€” that would risk changing what the author wrote. Preview first, nothing changes until you tap Apply.

Fix this book for Scribe β€” one tap

Runs, in order: rebuild chapters from the table of contents (if they don't match), fix chapter organization, clean conversion body text (empty page markers, standalone Page N headers, empty paragraphs, duplicates β€” TOC anchors are kept), strip scripts, remove broken images, and resize the cover to Scribe 1860 Γ— 2480. Front matter in the TOC (Cover, Copyright, etc.) is skipped. Your original file is untouched β€” export to save the cleaned copy.

Fix broken images

That blue β€œ?” in a reader is usually an image whose file is missing from the book, empty, or actually an HTML page saved as a picture. This finds those images (in chapters and the cover), shows you exactly which ones, and removes them β€” including their entry in the book's file list, so the exported book doesn't still point at a missing file. A removed cover leaves the book coverless until you add a new one in Cover & KDP.

Find & replace in this book

Searches chapter text and chapter titles (never HTML tags). Case-insensitive unless you check Match case.

Search this book β€” jump to a chapter

Finds a phrase in chapter titles and chapter text (case-insensitive), shows a snippet for each chapter that contains it, and tapping a result opens that chapter in the editor, scrolled to the match where possible.

Tap a chapter to edit it. Use ↑ ↓ to reorder, or merge a chapter into the one below it. β€œFix organization” previews splits at extra headings, merges of tiny chapters, removal of empty chapters, title fixes, and chapter-number sorting β€” nothing changes until you tap Apply.

Cover fit β€” pick your Kindle

Resizing never stretches your cover. Crop-to-fill trims the edges to fill the screen; Pad keeps the whole image and fills the leftover space. Your Scribe is selected by default β€” change it any time.

No cover yet

Note: a Scribe-fit cover (3:4) is for reading on your Scribe. KDP publishing wants a taller 1.6:1 cover β€” pick the KDP size above if you're publishing, not reading.

Amazon KDP readiness

This is a pre-flight check, not Amazon's approval. It flags the things KDP most often rejects: missing title/author, a bad cover, empty chapters, and a broken table of contents. Export always rebuilds your TOC.

KDP eBook cover spec, checked here: 1600 Γ— 2560 px ideal, at least 1000 px on the long side, height Γ· width of 1.6, JPEG or TIFF, RGB, under 50 MB. Manuscript limit: 650 MB. EPUB is KDP's recommended format; MOBI is no longer accepted for new uploads.

Export

Export updates the book details, converts the book to EPUB 3.3, and packs a fresh EPUB. If you changed the chapters, the table of contents is rebuilt from your new chapter titles; if you didn't, your book's original table of contents is converted to EPUB 3.3 navigation. Your original file is never overwritten β€” this downloads a new copy.

Before you send it on

  • Open the download in Aurum or your reader to check images and headings.
  • If a chapter looks empty, check that it has at least one paragraph.

Send it to your Scribe

Forge only makes the file β€” getting it onto the Scribe happens outside the app, and it's the step most people get stuck on. Two ways that work:

  • Send to Kindle (easiest): go to amazon.com/sendtokindle, sign in with the Amazon account your Scribe uses, upload the exported EPUB. It appears in your Scribe library β€” check the author there, not just the title.
  • USB: connect the Scribe with a USB-C cable, copy the exported EPUB onto it, eject, then open it from the library.
  • Delete any older copy of the same book from the Scribe library first, or you can end up opening the old version and thinking the fix didn't work.

Publish on KDP β€” the steps outside this app

Forge's KDP check is only a pre-flight. Amazon's own steps, in order:

  • Kindle Previewer (free, Mac/Windows, from Amazon): open the exported EPUB in it and look for layout errors, missing images, and a broken table of contents. Fix anything it flags back in Forge, then re-export.
  • Cover: KDP wants a separate cover image, not the one inside the EPUB β€” download the 1600 Γ— 2560 JPEG from Cover & KDP (pick the KDP size, not Scribe).
  • ISBN or free ASIN: if you only sell on Amazon, KDP's free ASIN is enough. If you want the book sold elsewhere too, buy your own ISBN first β€” an ISBN can't be reused for a different book, and KDP's free ISBN only works on Amazon.
  • Upload: in KDP, upload the EPUB as the manuscript and the JPEG as the cover, then preview again in KDP's online previewer before you publish.

Phone checks only you can do

Automation can't do these β€” they're on your phone, with your books. Tick them off as you go; they confirm the fixes that were built for your reports:

Validate this book

A built-in check in the spirit of EPUBCheck (the real EPUBCheck is a Java tool and can't run inside an offline phone app, so this is the same categories of checks, run here): package version and identifier, spine and manifest consistency, navigation links, cover, and metadata. It checks the exact file that would be exported, without downloading it. Errors would break a reader; warnings are worth a look but usually safe.

Batch β€” clean several books at once

Load several EPUBs, pick the same fixes for all of them, run once, then download each cleaned book β€” or all of them as one ZIP. Everything stays on your device. Batch does not guess metadata (no online lookup per book); it does the structural cleanup: TOC title cleanup, TOC rebuild, chapter organization, conversion body cleanup, script stripping, Scribe cover fit, an optional title-less rename, an optional find & replace, and validation of each export.

Fixes to apply to every book

If a book is already open in Book/Chapters, it is left untouched β€” batch restores it when it finishes. Your original files are never overwritten; these are new cleaned copies.
